Unfortunately we don ́t get any younger either, therefore we were and are still, thinking of selling our
holiday rental in Guajar Faragüit, La Cueva, since it ́s about a 40 min drive one way to get there. The
original idea was to sell La Cueva and then buy something similar here in Orgiva. Since the big financial
crisis, it is rather difficult to sell property, but easy to buy. We started to look around Orgiva. Very
quickly it became clear, that there were hardly any properties with garden or patio in the older part of
town.
By pure coincidence we came across El Garzopo, an old and rather derelict carpentry, known in the
village as “El taller de Joseico El Garzopo”. A big house with a small patio overlooking a garden with old
fruit trees, which did not belong to the property. It wasn ́t really what we had in mind, but we decided to
buy it anyway. All in all we needed the signatures of 12 different owners, some of whom could not stand
each other and sent their solicitors to sign to make sure they would not have to meet themselves. All
rather complicated, but also funny!
When the house was ours, we enquired about the garden. It turned out, that it belonged to a stationary
shop, whos new young tenants had the option to buy shop and garden. When asked, they showed no
interest in the garden and we quickly met with the owner, whom we knew and came to a deal. That sale
went through very quickly.
Now we owned a big house in the middle of town, right next to the church with a big fruit tree garden,

When we told the grand daughter of Joseico, a grandmother herself now, that we were going to name the
house after the nickname of her grandfather, she started to cry!
This holiday home in the Alpujarras is ideal for a family holiday in Andalucia, or a hiking holiday in the
Alpujarras, or a holiday for two, a long term rental in Orgiva or even a holiday without car in Andalucia,
as we are in the middle of town, with good public transport.
