La Cueva – La Estrella & El Sol Reviews

Rebecca & Jens, Germany

We have often been on vacation in holiday homes – but never in one as beautiful as “La Estrella”... Naomi and Stefan are such wonderful people, the house has been so lovingly and wonderfully renovated, super clean, rustic and incredibly cozy. There really is everything you need. The roof terrace is a dream, the grotto is the icing on the cake.

The town of Guájar-Faragüit is such a great place on earth, a bit remote but still somehow central and the people here are incomparable to anything – incredibly hospitable and open, despite the somewhat remote location.

We have never had the feeling after a holiday that we would like to go back here with all our hearts. But this place has now become a place of longing for us. Thank you Naomi and Stefan ❤️

I absolutely recommend this lovely home in the charming village of Guájare-Faragüit near Granada 🇪🇸 ! We couldn’t have been more pleased with the house or our hosts, Stefan and Naomi 💕. We were in love with the hot tub/pool and the rooftop terraces. We cooked in the kitchen, enjoyed sunsets and peaceful nights from the terraces, and lounged in the pool tucked into a natural cave (so 😎 cool!). The bed was comfortable, rooms were spacious and the village is charming with friendly neighbors. Also it’s 25 minutes from beaches or 1 hour from the amazing Alhambra historic site—a must see 🤩😍 The house was exactly as described with the minor exception that, as my friend explained, Spaniards may consider floor fans as air conditioning which wasn’t an issue because we opened all the windows in evenings and the house immediately cooled off completely from the cool mountain air. It was magical each night peering through the bedroom window at a night sky full of stars. ✨ 🌟

El Sol … sorry there’s not 10 stars,

If ever you’ve thought of experiencing a classic Spanish mountain ‘white town’, we’ve stumbled across the most beautiful, relaxing, and energizing destination, far beyond what we had anticipated.

The village of Guajar-Faraguit (actually three small villages strung along a winding mountain road) nestled in some of the most dramatic terrain we’ve experienced. And it’s easy to get to … it’s about an hour’s drive south of Granada, and the same amount northeast of Malaga, which is a beautiful Mediterranean coastal town. You’re right between the beach and one of the most important cities of ancient Andalusia. The best international airport to use is Madrid, about five hours north.

And where would you stay? Cueva El Sol or Cueva La Estrella, the most magical ‘duplex’ you could imagine. Calm, clean, quiet, warm at night, cool in the daytime, and filled with the most imaginative, creative, and well executed design and construction we’ve ever stayed in. Created, owned, and operated by lovely expat Brit and Austrian, this lovely casa feels as comfortable to us as if we were right at home the minute we entered the courtyard.

And it’s all very affordable, rates far below AirB&Bs, and food in the village supermercardos is unbelievable cheap, including good wine for 1.75 € and up. Walk out with a days grub and vino for 10 € (that’s
$10.70 usd this week).

Check out Stefan and Naomi’s website and we hope you all can experience this Spanish delight.

OH, and for you ultimate dreamers, it’s for sale … lock stock and barrel, down to the tea towels. Licensed, managed, web-sited, with reliable support for cleaning and maintenance from village folk. The asking? 205,00.00 € ! As I told Stephan, if I were ten years younger I’d already have a cashier’s check in hand. So if you’re investment minded, take a look at this spectacular self-sustaining property … you can live in one side and vacation rent the other, and still have a positive financial outcome … when you do buy it, please invite us to visit.

My family of five spent three great nights in this lovely house. The house has everything you need and the lovely court yard with the pool is really cool. Superb roof top! Non touristy village with friendly locals and nice dogs. Hope to be back in the future!

What a wonderful stay we had in this quaint beauty village! Stefan and Naomi were SO helpful and accommodating. The charming cottage was spotless and so well appointed. This lovely little villa felt like a home away from home. We can’t wait to return someday. Love love love!!!!!

Just wow!!! Beautiful!!! What the two of them are offering here hardly finds words. Beautifully located in the mountains of Andalusia – close to Granada and beaches. You can take great walks in the village and the landscape invites you to unwind. The accommodation was designed with so much love and it shows. You also get great tips for the surrounding area. Again any time. Just the right place to switch off. This little paradise with the terrace and the grotto is fantastic!!! All stars and big praise and a big thank you

We had a great stay at La Cueva. The place is really cozy and calm, providing everything you need for a great vacation: relaxing on the terrace or by the pool, walking around the village or hiking in the mountains. The village is in a remote, scenic mountain valley, yet only a short drive away from the coast. Fully recommended!

My Girlfriend and I have been staying in Stefan’s and Naomi’s “La Cueva” for 5 Days. We had an amazing time in this small and calm Town. Stefan was super friendly and gave us some nice recommendations. You can easily get to the beach oder La Alhambra in Granada and also get to hike in the Andalusian mountains. If you are looking for a nice House, far away from all the tourist Places you should definitely stay some nights in la Cueva.

The house is beautifully decorated and is spotlessly clean. Stefan is really attentive and helpful. Guájar Faragüit is a fantastic location – it’s a completely unspoilt and friendly Andalusian village and a great base to visit Granada and beaches of the Costa Tropical. The surrounding landscape is marvellous – it’s very green and there are some wonderful walks around in the valley with ruined Moorish castles and waterfalls.

This is a fantastic home in a beautiful area. The roof terrace and patio areas with cave pool are superb.

The restoration of the house is fantastic with beautiful features.

The area is stunning in an ancient village with beautiful narrow streets. It is also only around 20 minutes from the coast.

Highly recommended.

Stefan and Naomi have created a truly wonderful holiday home that serves as a lovely rural escape. Stefan was so helpful with every little detail and we couldn’t recommend this place more. The surrounding area is beautiful and great to explore but La Cueva also serves as a perfect place to relax and take a breath. Thanks to Stefan and Naomi for a special stay – we hope to be back!

We stayed at casa estrella. The house is beautiful. Everything was clean when we got there. The upper terrace is a gem, great spot to hangout before sunset. The pool was nice to have in a hot afternoon. Stefan was a great host. Very responsive and attentive.

Authentic Andalucian village experience
Stefan and Naomi have created a little paradise in this authentically rebuilt village house. The
(shared) rooftop patio, cave jacuzzi and garden courtyard were magical and the units were very
well finished. The unit was larger than pictures suggested. Great base for our week of exploring
ang road cycling.

Fabulous Accommodation, Superb Location!
From the moment we arrived we slipped into total relaxation! Stefan (the owner) welcomed us,
provided a few supplies and told us about the local amenities to ensure we maximized our stay.
We stayed in La Cueva, a beautifully designed and very clean house. Quirky, spacious and has
everything you need to make you feel at home, including Naomi’s homemade jam and oils – a
must try, the jam is simply delicious! The cave pool is a delight to behold and very welcoming in
the hot sun. The roof terrace is spacious with a BBQ, tables to dine, hammocks to chill and
great views of the nearby mountains. Although you may have to share the garden areas, don’t
let this put you off, there is more than enough space. The village is quaint, with lots of narrow,
winding streets to explore. The local people are very welcoming and friendly, always saying
‘Hola’ as you pass. A little Spanish is helpful as no-one hear speaks English – something else
we loved! There is a local supermarket with all the provisions you will need, a baker and a bar
where you receive tapas along with your drinks. We watched the locals chatter away while they
were playing dominoes! There are so many wonderful places to visit nearby, one to note is the
highest restaurant in the area, found in Guajar Alto, a short drive or wonderful 4km walk from
Faraguit. The owners provide the most wonderful food, we ate rabbit, lamb and dogfish – all to
be highly recommended. A car is advised for this area to enable you to explore the Granada
region fully. There are many beautiful villages nearby, and the famous Alhambra is a reasonably
easy journey from the village. The market held in Orgiva on Thurs is well worth a visit to top up
your fruit and veg supplies, or just treat yourself! If you love nature and walking, you will not find
a more suitable holiday location. We were blessed to see so many differing varieties of birds,
including Bonnelli’s Warbler, Black Redstart, Short-Toed & Booted Eagles – absolutely amazing.
If you are less ambulant, be aware, lots of hills to navigate and the village is remote. Otherwise,
if you are in any doubt, don’t be, everything about this place is fabulous. A perfect holiday, we
will definitely be back!

A really nice place to stay! Stefan and Naomi made a wonderful house in a very nice and charming village.
The house is very charming and cosy and has enough space! The rooftop terrace comes with a great view!
Communication with Stefan is great, as well as his advice how to get there, and how to get around in the
village. Naomi’s home made marmalade is great! We really had a great time!

Neil

We had a lovely time, very sad to leave. It’s a fascinating area and our hosts were wonderful. We have now
moved to the coast and immediately regretted it!

Little Mountain Gem
We stayed in La Estrella for a week in June 2015 and had a lovely holiday. The house is very
authentic and beautifully restored. The views from the roof terrace are very beautiful and the
roof is sunny all day and into the evening. We enjoyed the plunge pool very much and the whole
courtyard swathed in bougainvillea. There were lovely showers in the house and the living area
was comfortable and well equipped. The location is very good too, near to Granada and Las
Alpujarras and the coast. I would definitely recommend a stay for those looking for a little bit of
Southern Spanish authenticity.

Wonderful place and time
Property is beautiful. Restoration is very well done with lots of nice touches. We’ll equipped and plunge pool and terrace we’re a great place to chill. Village is quiet and remote but welcoming. You need to be able to manage stairs OK. The village and property has lots of them. Tha is for a great stay Stefan and Naomi.

Lovely stay
We were a group of 4 people and we enjoyed this lovely house. The owners are very helpful and made an amazing job building this house! If you go there, be sure to try the very very small bakery in the same street, best bread ever!

Unique, quiet, rural
It was nice to be in a small Spanish village. Very comfortable. It was a bit cold (mid December), so we were glad to have a wood burning stove for a couple of evenings. The deck on top is full of warm sunshine during the day. It was difficult to think about going anywhere else. We did have a great 3 hour walk up to some great ruins and through the other nearby town. Great loop. An hour drive to a tour of the Alhambra in Grenada. We also drove through the mountains on one of our favorite “shortcuts” on our way to Seville. Looks like lots of hiking and adventuring to be had. This is a great place to get some relief from the big cities and crowds. Thanks, Stefan and Naomi.

A dreamy place in the hills
One of the nicest and cleanest apartments I’ve ever booked. Stefan and Naomi remember every single detail about what their guests might need. I was there for lovely fall weather, although I think 360 out of 365 days per year are beautiful in Guajar-Faraguit. Best was the hiking, even when I was just along the small roads. What beautiful country. The rooftop terrace and pool are very special. Great small kitchen, and good wifi (if you want to just hang in and relax one evening) Thanks, y’all!!!

Tanya & Bas, Amsterdam

This place is really beautiful! As if you come in a dream! The village, the entrance, the garden, the roof terrace, the house and interior are so beautiful. Fortunately this was our last stay because everything would be a disappointment after this. Stefan and Naomi are such nice people and give good tips, the cottage is attractive and everything in the cottage is clean and comfortable. We will definitely come back here! Greetings Bas and Tanya
