Each Wednesday a small market takes place in the village, perfect for buying fresh fruit and veggies. Up
next to the bar/restaurant “La Parada” you find a small grocery store, at the entrance of the village is
another bar open on weekends. The village has got two bakeries, a postoffice, a farmacy and a day health
centre.
A few steps away from the house is a small square, where different food sellers park at various times a
day. Every time you hear some beeping it means a seller is telling you – come and buy! The baker comes
up to 3 times a day, the fish seller, every day, except Son and Mon, around lunchtime, sometimes they sell
frozen foods, cheese or meats or even fresh pastry!
Directly from the house you can do short o longer walks and hikes. Maybe go up tho the “Castillejo”, a
ruin of a moorish fortress – about 30 mins. You can see it from the roof top terrace, directly oposite us.
Once up you ́ll enjoy lovely views across the whole valley. From here you can go back or go down
towards the other village, Guajar Fondon, (which has got a bar for some refreshments), then go back
home via another path, like this it will be a 2 hour round-trip through Avocado-,Chirimoya-,Almond-
,Olive- and Citrus fruit trees. By now you will understand why the Moors called this valley “The hidden
gardens”
Half way up towards Guajar Alto, the 3rd village in the valley, you will go through a small gorge, with a
waterfall to the right. At the entrance of the village on the left hand side is the bar “Carmen”, a very
popular place to eat on weekends, people come up all the way from the Costa Tropical. Carmen does local
specialities, like Choto (kid) or conejo (rabbit), her portions are massive, so come being hungry!
In summer, the river, La Toba, just above Guajar alto is blocked into a natural pool, from which the
helicopters scoop up water in case of bush fires. This then is the beach of Los Guajares!! The pool is very refreshing and big enough even for adults to swim, it ́s an idyllic place, with shady trees and picnic tables.
In 20 mins you are down at the Costa Tropical, with a big choice of beautiful beaches. The main villages

In Motril (20mins) you ́ll find all big supermarkets, but in the centre there are also many nice shops.
Motril is not a tourist town, which makes it a lovely place to be. The old sugar factory here has been
turned into a very interesting museum – an inside tip! Only a few years ago they were still growing lots of
sugar cane all along the Costa Tropical.
Between Motril and Salobreña golf lovers will find a golfcourse right on the beach.

Guajar Faragüit celebrates its biggest fiesta in August, always around the 10th and 11th, the namesday of
their Patron Saint San Lorenzo. You do have to experience that, 4 -5 days of pure celebrating, mostly
through the nights, since it is cooler, during the day they sleep. On the 10th and 11th in the evening, a
procession goes from the church up to the bar, followed by a most amazing fire work display – on both
days!! The whole night through you can dance to live music.
La Cueva is ideal for a family holiday near the Costa Tropical or a hiking holiday near the Alpujarras, a
culture trip to Granada, a holiday with dog in Andalucia, a holiday for two in the Valle de Lecrín or even
a long term rental in Andalucia.
