Buying of El Naranjo in Extremadura

In our sparetime we are doing voluntary service as meditation instructors. The meditation centre we go to mostly is in Avila, about 2 hours west of Madrid, in the beautiful Sierra de los Gredos, with the highest mountain being el Pico Almanzor 2591 m.a.sea.
The drive from Orgiva to the centre is about 7hrs, which one day might get too much for us. Therefore we have been looking at properties over the last few years. At first we looked at flats, but we are just not “flat people”, then it was some great properties in the country side and we decided that it would not be too adviseable to get something that a) needs a lot of maintenance and b) from where we would need a car to get to any place. So in the end we looked at town houses, that are at the edge of town. We looked at a radius of about 30 mins from the centre.
We kind of had given up already, but before a course in October 23 I found 3 houses I wanted to have a look at before the course started.
One was a ruin in Villanueva de la Vera, Extremadura, just across the border from Avila, 25 mins from the meditation centre. I loved it immediately, but we were in no rush in any case.
Once back home we had a month before going up again, Naomi wanted to wait until then, to have another look at the house, but I placed an offer all the same and …..it was accepted!
So we did the pre-signing on-line and when we went up again in November 23, it was kind of ours.
The roof had holes and we realized, that with winter coming, it might be a good idea to get the roof done at least.
We asked the seller, if she would mind if we repaired the roof of her house:-) – she did not and so we saw a few builders and left it in the hands of two boys, before we went back down South again after the course.
We agreed to have the deeds signed in April of 24.
