In November 2000 we finished the refurbishing of the Holidayrental in Orgiva La Rueda and were able
to move in ourselves, in order to be able to do up the main building, which we only finished at the end of
2001.
Our Holiday Home in the Alpujarras La Rueda has turned out a real gem, small, but very cozy and
romantic. We put in a mediterranean balcony looking out to the south, to be fully able to enjoy the
marvellous views across the mountainrange of the Contraviesa. In the end we also installed a
centralheating, something that is very rarely done here, but for which one is very greatful during at least a
few days every winter. We also put in a small woodburner with glassfrontage, which is a hit with our
Spanish guests.
One morning, we were already sleeping in the mainhouse, we heard a kind of waterfall. After
investigating, we saw a waterfall coming out of the cottages` balcony!! It turned out that Pepe, the
plumber, had used a faulty waterconnection to the toilet and now we had a pool INSIDE the house!
In hindsight, this was a minor issue happening during our years of building – come, with some time at
hand and we will tell you our stories!
When we arrived, a local Expat neighbour greeted us with these words: “Welcome to the Alpujarra, here
you either learn to be patient or you leave again!”
