Refurbishing El Garzopo

In January and February 2015 we were away travelling and left Paco in charge. We thought he could
prepare everything for the renovation work, like pulling down inner walls, take out the floor tiles , get rid
of the rubble etc..
At that time we neither had any water connection, no electricity, nor sewage connection.
In March, after our return, we were going to see how much work Paco had done and quite to our surprise
saw, that practically nothing had been done. On the phone Paco told us that we needed to meet and talk.
He came with his friend,Franci, a building surveyor, who had a good look at the whole house and then
came and suggested to pull it all down. No way!  We asked for a plan “B”. So he went up again to have a
look around and coming back, he looked at us sadly and said “pull it down!”.
In the end we agreed on putting the whole interior into a steel gurdle, right from the carrying roof beams,
down all the walls and pillars to the ground! This new project was quite time and of course cost
intensive!! Some neighbours call the house now “the Eiffeltower”.
One day we came to work, it was a rather windy day, and wanted to open a north facing window, Paco
strongly told us to keep the window shut, otherwise the whole house might come down! We laughed at
his joke, but then realized, he was deadly serious! Obviously we were not even aware of just how a bad
state the house was in!
Inside everything was pulled down, all that was kept, was the roof, 3 walls and the carrying pillars, from
downstairs you could look up 2 storeys and see the roof! Only good, that we were already used to all that dust
and rubble!
El Garzopo, our holiday home in Andalucia, is perfect for a family holiday in Orgiva, or a hiking holiday                                                                                                                                                             in the Alpujarra or a holiday for two in Granada or even a long term rental in Andalucia.
